Amazing Grace (1)

I apologize to those of you who are giving me a try and I haven't posted in a couple of weeks. This blogging thing is fun, but so is experiencing life in Christ's hands.

On July 6th a friend and music teammate and myself will be singing Chris Tomlin's Amazing Grace, but I am going to spend the next several entries going over the different verses of the original Amazing Grace...

The First Verse

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That sav’d a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

As I read through these words I am reminded of the parables of the lost sheep, lost coin and lost son found in the Gospel of Luke Chapter 15.

1. In what ways do you feel "lost"?
2. Think of the shepherd, the woman and the father, when we are lost, God looks for us just as hard as these examples...he pains for us and will do anything to get us back into his Kingdom. Have you ever lost something/someone?
3. As Christians, we talk about "loving people into the Kingdom", in what ways can we do this by showing true Christ-like love for those who are "lost"?

Grace...Amazing, isn't it :)

Thanks for reading.

In Better Hands - Natalie Grant

This week, based on a suggestion, I have chosen In Better Hands by Natalie Grant (listen on her My Space page here.)

Natalie Grant - In Better Hands

From the album Relentless

It’s hard to stand

On shifting sand

It’s hard to shine

In the shadows of the night

You can’t be free

If you don’t reach for help

And you can’t love

If you don’t love yourself

But there is hope when my faith runs out…

Casuse I’m in better hands now

It’s like the sun is shining

When the rain is pouring down

It’s like my soul is flying

Though my feet are on the ground

So take this heart of mine

There’s no doubt

I’m in better hands now

I am strong

All because of you

I stand in awe of

Every mountain that you move

I am changed

Yesterday is gone

I am safe

From this moment on…

And there’s no fear when the night comes around

I’m in better hands now

It’s like the sun is shining

When the rain is pouring down

It’s like my soul is flying

Though my feet are on the ground

It’s like the world is silent

Though I know it isn’t true

It’s like the breath of Jesus

Is right here in this room

So take this heart of mine

There’s no doubt

You can’t be saved

If you’re not reaching out for help

Relevant Bible Verses:
Acts 21:14 (The Messsage) - We saw that we weren't making even a dent in his resolve, and gave up. "It's in God's hands now," we said. "Master, you handle it."

Matthew 21:21 (The Message) - But Jesus was matter-of-fact: "Yes—and if you embrace this kingdom life and don't doubt God, you'll not only do minor feats like I did to the fig tree, but also triumph over huge obstacles. This mountain, for instance, you'll tell, 'Go jump in the lake,' and it will jump. Absolutely everything, ranging from small to large, as you make it a part of your believing prayer, gets included as you lay hold of God."

2 Timothy 3:14 (The Message) - But don't let it faze you. Stick with what you learned and believed, sure of the integrity of your teachers—why, you took in the sacred Scriptures with your mother's milk! There's nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God's way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.

Think on these things:
1. If we are the body, and in Christ, we are in better hands, with Christ Jesus working through us, how can we tangibly show others that they will be in His better hands by chosing to live a life with God at the center?

2. Continuing with the theme of "the body", if we are, can we not, be the "breath" of Jesus right here on earth?

3. It is one thing to believe, but we must receive Him by allowing His words and actions to work through us to bring and strengthen and love others into The Kingdom.
